The scores
  • What's the movie.guru score? Critics and audiences, split 50/50. Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, IMDb, CinemaScore and PostTrak each get calibrated against thousands of notable movies, then blended onto a 1 to 10 scale. A 7.3 beats about 70% of them. Full breakdown.
  • Why is everything so close to 5? Because 5 is average, on purpose. The median movie is a 5.5. A 4.7 is a decent Tuesday night, not a failing grade.
  • What's The Guru’s Take? movie guru's own rating on the same scale, served with the TLDR. It gets its own section on reviewed movie pages and never counts toward the score. The build refuses to run if it ever leaks in.
  • Why doesn't every movie have a Take? A Take only exists once movie guru has actually watched and reviewed the thing. Nobody fakes one. Every movie still gets a movie.guru score.
  • How often do the numbers change? New releases refresh every day. Classics get a checkup once a week.
The site
  • Where does the data come from? Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, CinemaScore and PostTrak numbers via Wikipedia, IMDb ratings, Box Office Mojo grosses, the Netflix Top 10, TMDB and JustWatch for Where to Watch, and Wikimedia Commons for cast photos. Every page credits them in the footer.
  • Is this a business? Nope. Non-commercial fan blog. No ads, no affiliate links, nothing for sale. Ticket and streaming links pay movie.guru exactly nothing.
  • What's the Spoiler Blocker? A switch on the home page and on reviewed movie pages that covers movie guru's TLDRs and Takes until you click. Your browser remembers the setting. Nothing gets sent anywhere.
  • How do I get the Weekly Roundup? Drop your email on the home page. One free email every Thursday, with an unsubscribe link in every issue.
  • A number looks wrong. Now what? The data comes from public sources, so if a source is off, the page is off until it updates. Spotted something busted? Tell movie guru.
  • Is that my poster? If you hold the rights to something on here and want it gone, email rights@movie.guru with the page link.
