movie.guru Terms of Use

1. Using movie.guru

These terms cover your use of movie.guru (the "site"). By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

movie.guru is a free, non-commercial fan blog. There are no ads, no affiliate links, and nothing for sale.

2. Opinions are opinions

TLDR reviews, The Guru’s Take, hooks and other commentary on movie.guru are movie guru's personal opinions. They're written to be funny, and they aren't statements of fact about any movie, person or company. The cash bets at the end of TLDRs are jokes, not offers.

The movie.guru score is different. It's calculated by an algorithm from public critic and audience scores, and The Guru’s Take is never part of it. It describes how a movie was received. It doesn't promise you'll like it.

3. Data is provided as is

Scores, box office figures, release dates, cast and crew, streaming availability and other movie data come from third-party sources, including Wikipedia, IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, CinemaScore, Box Office Mojo, Netflix Top 10, TMDB and JustWatch. Most of it updates automatically, and it can be incomplete, out of date or wrong.

Everything on movie.guru is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. Check the original source before relying on a number for anything that matters. To the fullest extent the law allows, movie.guru isn't liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site or relying on its content.

4. Posters, stills and other images

Movie posters and stills are the property of their studios and distributors. movie.guru shows them at reduced size to identify the movies it reviews and discusses, for the purpose of commentary, criticism and news reporting, which we believe is fair use under U.S. copyright law. Share images use drawn title cards, not studio artwork.

Cast photos come from Wikimedia Commons. Each one is Creative Commons licensed or in the public domain and is credited under the photo. Trailers are embedded from YouTube and stay hosted there.

5. movie.guru's own content

The original writing, design and graphics on movie.guru belong to movie.guru. You're welcome to quote short excerpts and share links, as long as you credit movie.guru and link back. Please don't copy whole pages, or scrape the site to republish its content or data. Data from third-party sources stays subject to those sources' own terms.

movie.guru links to other sites, including Fandango for showtimes, JustWatch and TMDB for streaming options, and the data sources credited on each page. It also embeds trailers from YouTube. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, products or privacy practices, and their own terms apply when you use them. A link isn't an endorsement, and movie.guru isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any studio, distributor or data source.

7. Newsletter and contact form

If you sign up for the Weekly Roundup or send a message through the contact page, please use your own email address and keep it civil. Kids under 13 shouldn't use either one. The Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how to get it deleted.

8. Copyright and takedowns

If you hold the rights to something on movie.guru and want it removed, email rights@movie.guru with:

  1. the link to the page,
  2. a description of the material you want removed, like a poster, photo or text,
  3. a statement that you own the rights or are authorized to act for the owner, and
  4. how to reach you.

We review every request and take material down when the request checks out.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If you keep using movie.guru after a change, you accept the updated terms.

10. Questions
