Fight or Flight (2025)

One hacker, one plane, one clue, and the clue is that the hacker is hurt. Josh Hartnett plays Lucas Reyes, a disgraced ex-Secret Service agent pulled out of hiding in Bangkok to find that hacker on a long flight to San Francisco, so he spends the first stretch eyeballing passengers for anyone who winces. That’s the joke, and the movie knows it. Then half the passenger list turns out to be hired guns after the same bounty, and everybody starts swinging whatever is in arm’s reach. Hartnett goes fully unhinged, scruffy and wild-eyed, and looks like he’s having more fun than anyone has ever had on a plane. The trouble is the cutaways to Katee Sackhoff’s team on the ground, which stop to explain the plot and drop the energy like a dinner cart in turbulence. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 76%, while opening crowds gave it a C+ CinemaScore. A 6.2 because Hartnett is a riot and the plot is filler. $384.22 says on your next flight you quietly check who in your row looks injured.

What works: Josh Hartnett throws himself into a goofy, go-for-broke performance, and the premise is silly in exactly the right way.

What doesn’t: The ground-control scenes keep stopping the fun to explain a plot nobody asked to have explained.

Who it’s for: People who want a loud, ridiculous plane movie for a Friday night and think Josh Hartnett deserved more leading roles.
