Hitpig! (2024)

Sugar rush is the only speed Hitpig! knows, and it never once sits down. Jason Sudeikis voices the title pig, a bounty hunter who rounds up runaway animals for cash. His new job is hauling Pickles (Lilly Singh), an elephant who escaped with help from activist Letícia dos Anjos (Anitta), back to a Las Vegas showman called the Leapin’ Lord of the Leotard (Rainn Wilson). The reward is a million dollars. Pickles assumes Hitpig is on her side, the one idea that gives the chase some heart. The trip bounces through London, a hot air balloon festival and a San Francisco cooking game show, where Pickles lends Hitpig her trunk as a spare hand, the best gag in the film. The rest is loud, frantic and easy to predict. Critics landed at 52% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it made $5.93 million worldwide. A 3.8 because the premise is fun and odd and the jokes are mostly volume. $4,944 says your kids beg for a pet pig by Friday and you check whether your lease allows one.

What works: The premise is genuinely odd, the characters are lively, and the cooking show scene with Pickles’s trunk is a clever bit of teamwork.

What doesn’t: It’s loud and chaotic from start to finish, and the bounty-hunter-learns-to-care story hits every beat you expect.

Who it’s for: Kids under ten who think a pig bounty hunter is the funniest idea ever, plus the parents along for the ride.
