The third Now You See Me runs the same routine as the first two: a heist, a reveal, a reveal of the reveal, and a cast smirking like they know where your card is. Three young grifters, played by Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa and Ariana Greenblatt, are faking Horsemen shows with deepfakes and holograms when Jesse Eisenberg’s Atlas turns up with a tarot card and a job offer. The target is a giant diamond owned by Rosamund Pike’s Veronika Vanderberg, a tycoon who launders money for criminals. The old crew drifts back in, and watching them bicker still has some charm. The globe-trotting hits Antwerp, a French château and a Formula One track in Abu Dhabi. But every twist is one this franchise has already pulled, just reshuffled, and you’ll call most of them from your seat. It made $246.4 million worldwide and holds a 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. A 4.6 because it’s the same deck in a new box. $73.87 says the next street magician you see spends the whole act wondering why you’re glaring at their sleeves.
What works: Seeing the old Horsemen bicker again still has some charm, and the Abu Dhabi set piece moves.
What doesn’t: The twists recycle the franchise’s old tricks, so the big reveals feel like reruns.
Who it’s for: Fans of the first two who miss the Horsemen and don’t mind knowing how the trick works.
Charlie is Veronika’s half-brother and the real mastermind: he posed as the Eye to recruit the Horsemen. Her vault turns out to be a stage in front of a live audience, and at the end a hologram of Dylan Shrike invites the three young magicians into the Eye.
A decade after the Four Horsemen's last show, three young grifters, Charlie (Justice Smith), Bosco LeRoy (Dominic Sessa) and June Rouclere (Ariana Greenblatt), are posing as them with deepfakes and holograms to drain a crooked crypto boss. Then the real J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) walks in holding a tarot card from the Eye. The gig: lift the Heart Diamond from Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike), a diamond tycoon who washes money for criminals. Merritt (Woody Harrelson), Jack (Dave Franco) and Henley (Isla Fisher) are part of the deck too. Ruben Fleischer directs. One hundred twelve minutes, nothing up its sleeve. Allegedly.
Anyone who can keep their eye on the card. Not that one. The other one.
