Mike Judge made a movie about office drones that predicted every job you’ve ever hated. Budget so low the set was basically a real office. Ron Livingston’s Peter looks dead inside from minute one and I felt that in my soul. Bill Lumbergh is the greatest villain in cinema history and he never even raises his voice, ‘mmmkay’ carries more menace than any supervillain monologue. Milton’s red stapler is a warning to management everywhere. The printer scene is the most cathartic act of violence ever put on film. First watch: hilarious because you dream of operating with zero fucks at work. Tenth watch: hilarious because you’re still there, and that face is yours. It flopped in theaters, then became a cult classic on cable, the most Office Space ending of all time. 8.1 because it hits harder every year you work for a living. I still hear that damn printer.

Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) writes software updates at Initech and hates every second of it, mostly because of his boss Bill Lumbergh (Gary Cole). A hypnotherapy session goes wrong and leaves him permanently relaxed, right as two consultants show up to decide who gets laid off. Peter stops caring, gets promoted, and talks his coworkers Michael (David Herman) and Samir (Ajay Naidu) into a penny-shaving scheme that works way too well. Meanwhile Milton (Stephen Root) just wants his stapler back. Eighty-nine minutes, one fax machine with a death wish.
Anyone with a case of the Mondays. Bring a cover sheet.
