Over Your Dead Body (2026)

Dan and Lisa both drive up to their lake cabin with the same secret weekend plan, making sure only one of them drives home, and the movie burns through that terrific setup way too fast. Once three fugitives literally drop through the attic, the clever marriage comedy turns into a much more conventional, much rougher survival thriller, and it’s way too intense for kids. Jason Segel is a fine sad sack as Dan, a director who made one feature and now makes pop-up ads. Samara Weaving is the live wire, and the moment Lisa reveals she planned even further ahead than he did is the best laugh in the movie. Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis play the fugitives with real menace and a little mischief. Critics gave it 69% on Rotten Tomatoes. A 5.2 because the first act is sharp and the rest settles for the usual chaos. $15.45 says the next time you book a cabin with your partner, you both check the attic before unpacking.

What works: The double-cross setup is sharp, and Samara Weaving gives an electric, funny performance as a wife who keeps outmaneuvering her husband.

What doesn’t: Once the fugitives arrive, it settles into a fairly conventional, very rough thriller, and the clever marriage satire fades away.

Who it’s for: Grown-ups who like their dark comedies twisty and don’t flinch easily. Not for kids.
