Scary Movie (2026)

Horror just had one of its best decades ever, and the new Scary Movie mostly spends its time roasting Scream again, a movie this franchise already roasted. That tells you how much fresh material showed up. The gags are thin, the meta bits explain themselves, and the whole thing feels like a rerun of a rerun. Anna Faris and Regina Hall are the reason to stay. Faris plays Cindy as a jumpy recluse who has spent years waiting for the killer to come back, and Hall swings at every line like she’s the only one who read the script. Cindy plowing through a wave of masked killers like an action hero is the high point, along with an opening that actually lands. It’s rated R and the humor gets crude, so it’s not for kids. It made $231.9 million worldwide on a reported $30M. A 2.2 because Faris and Hall deserved a sharper script. $583.25 says you quote the original at least once before the credits and laugh harder at that.

What works: Anna Faris and Regina Hall still have terrific comic timing, and the opening scene and final minutes land some real laughs.

What doesn’t: Most of the jokes are thin retreads, and it ignores the best horror of the last decade in favor of tired targets.

Who it’s for: Grown-up fans of the first two films who mainly want to see Cindy and Brenda together again.
