Singham Again (2024)

Like most family reunions, Singham Again has too many relatives and not enough conversation. Ajay Devgn’s Bajirao Singham now leads a special unit called the Shiva Squad, chasing a drug pipeline that runs to Sri Lanka, while his wife Avni (Kareena Kapoor Khan) works on a Ramlila production. When a villain called Danger Lanka (Arjun Kapoor) takes Avni, Rohit Shetty lays the rescue over the Ramayana, a story with far more weight than this script can carry, and critics found the parallels forced. Avni leaving a trail of the bangles Singham gave her is a sweet touch. Then the roster piles in: Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, and Ranveer Singh as Simmba, who walks off with most of the laughs. The action is loud and the plot is easy to call across 144 minutes. It made $2.19 million in North America. A 3.3 because Ranveer Singh is a riot and the script is a pileup. $1,833 says you walk into work tomorrow like the backup just arrived, and nobody looks up.

What works: Ranveer Singh brings real comic energy as Simmba, and the star-packed lineup delivers the big crowd moments fans came for.

What doesn’t: The screenplay is predictable and overstuffed, and the way it maps the story onto the Ramayana feels forced rather than meaningful.

Who it’s for: Fans of Rohit Shetty’s cop universe who want every hero in one movie and don’t need surprises.
