The fate of two countries in Spy × Family Code: White comes down to a dessert called Meremere and one very bad snack decision. Loid Forger’s handler tells him to show results on Operation Strix or lose the job. Anya’s school is staging a cooking contest, the principal judging it is obsessed with Meremere, and so the whole family heads to the northern city of Frigis on a dessert-research trip. On the ride up, Anya pockets a mystery key and snacks on chocolate that matters a great deal to an Ostanian colonel named Snidel. Meanwhile, Yor has misread a moment between Loid and fellow spy Fiona and is quietly spiraling. Anya’s inner-monologue asides are still the best jokes in the franchise, and the airship finale is a blast. The first half dawdles, and too many gags end up in the bathroom. It’s made for fans and changes nothing in the bigger story. A 7.2 because the Forgers are a joy and the mission barely matters. $58.06 says you hear a dog bark tonight and assume it just saw the future.
What works: Anya’s inner monologue is still comedy gold, the Forgers’ fake-family chemistry is intact, and the airship finale delivers real action.
What doesn’t: The first half dawdles, a lot of the humor is bathroom jokes, and the story leaves the series exactly where it found it.
Who it’s for: Spy × Family fans who want a feature-length bonus adventure with the whole family, Bond included.
Anya swallows the microfilm and ends up a prisoner on Snidel’s airship, where Loid sneaks aboard in disguise and Yor takes down a cyborg soldier. The family bring the airship down in a river, the microfilm turns up stuck in Anya’s teeth, and Loid keeps his mission.
Loid Forger (Takuya Eguchi) is a WISE spy codenamed Twilight, and his handler Sylvia Sherwood (Yūko Kaida) warns him he could lose Operation Strix if he doesn't show real progress. His wife Yor (Saori Hayami) secretly works as an assassin, and his daughter Anya (Atsumi Tanezaki) secretly reads minds. Anya's school is holding a cooking contest judged by a principal who loves a dessert called Meremere, so Loid plans a family trip north to Frigis to taste the real thing. On the train, Anya finds a key and some chocolate she shouldn't eat. Takashi Katagiri directs. One hundred ten minutes, worst family vacation ever, in the best way.
Families with secrets. So, all of them. Snacks found on trains are at your own risk.
