They Will Kill You (2026)

Every fight in They Will Kill You ends the same way: the rich people get back up. That’s the gimmick, and also the trouble. Zazie Beetz plays Asia, fresh out of prison, who takes a maid job at the Virgil, a century-old Manhattan high-rise, to find the little sister she lost years ago. Night one, masked residents come for her. She wins. They stand up again. Repeat for 94 minutes, and the loop starts to feel like a video game stuck on one level. Beetz is the reason it mostly works. She’s fierce, funny and unbothered, the toughest housekeeper in New York. Patricia Arquette is a blast as the Virgil’s Irish building manager, all smiles and secrets. Tom Felton and Heather Graham clearly had a ball as wealthy tenants. Kirill Sokolov shoots the whole building like a gothic funhouse. It made $19.4 million worldwide on a reported $20M. A 5.4 because Beetz is a star and the repetition wears thin. $441 says the next job ad you see promising free housing makes you wonder who had the room before you.

What works: Zazie Beetz is fierce and funny in every fight, and the century-old Virgil makes a terrific gothic playground for the chaos.

What doesn’t: The fight, get back up, fight again structure repeats so often that the middle stretch feels like one scene on a loop.

Who it’s for: Grown-up horror-comedy fans who want a fast, stylish midnight movie and don’t need the rules to add up.
