Toy Story 5 (2026)

A frog-shaped tablet named Lilypad wins Bonnie over almost instantly, and Toy Story 5 never decides whether she’s the villain or just a gadget doing her job. That’s the wobble. The movie opens with a sharp point about screens swallowing kids, then lets it drift, while a crowd of new toys and devices clutter the frame and Woody drops in mostly to say hi. What saves it is Jessie. Joan Cusack finally gets the lead, a sheriff trying to hold a bedroom together while her kid stares at a glowing rectangle, and her trip back to the farmhouse of Emily, the girl who owned her first, is the emotional knockout. A crate of shipwrecked Buzz Lightyears stuck in demo mode, saluting her sheriff badge like it’s Star Command, is the funniest running gag in 102 minutes. It made $1.15 billion worldwide on a reported $250M. A 7.4 because Jessie carries it and the script can’t keep up. $803 says you spot a forgotten stuffed animal on a shelf this week and quietly move it somewhere with a better view.

What works: Joan Cusack makes Jessie a real lead, scrappy and scared at once, and the shipwrecked Buzz Lightyears stuck in demo mode are a great running gag.

What doesn’t: The screen-time idea gets dropped halfway, and so many new toys and gadgets pile in that the main story feels undercooked.

Who it’s for: Families who grew up with Woody and Buzz, and any parent who has ever bargained with a kid over one more episode.
