Christopher Nolan's 8 Best Movies, Ranked

Ranked

Nolan makes puzzles, Batmen and very large IMAX bills. The movie.guru score sorted them, and the Dark Knight crowd is not going to like it.

Number one has no Batman, no IMAX and the highest score on the list.

  1. 8The Dark Knight Rises poster
Overstuffed and overlong, but the stadium scene still hits.
It juggles a cat burglar, a rookie cop, a masked revolutionary and a retired Batman for 164 minutes, and a few pins hit the floor. A reported $250 to $300 million budget.
  2. 7Inception poster
    Inception (2010)8.2
Seventh place is the real heist here.
8.8 on IMDb from 2.88 million votes. The movie.guru score says 8.1, tied for last here. The rotating hallway fight deserved better than seventh.
  3. 6Batman Begins poster
    Batman Begins (2005)8.5
Better than Rises, and it's not even close.
Cillian Murphy plays the Scarecrow here and Oppenheimer three spots up, which is range. $375.6 million worldwide on a $150 million budget, and audiences rank it above 94% of notable movies.
  4. 5Dunkirk poster
    Dunkirk (2017)8.7
His shortest movie here, and his most relentless.
106 minutes, barely any dialogue, and a ticking score that never lets you breathe. Metacritic gives it 94, and it treats a true story with real respect. $550 million worldwide.
  5. 4The Dark Knight poster
    The Dark Knight (2008)9.3
Even the Joker's music is scarier than most villains.
Hans Zimmer gives the Joker one long, scraping note, and Heath Ledger fills all 152 minutes with pure unpredictability. 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, 3.24 million IMDb votes.
  6. 3Oppenheimer poster
    Oppenheimer (2023)9.3
Nolan's most grown-up movie: no capes, no dreams, just consequences.
Audiences rank it above 94% of notable movies, with 1.1 million IMDb votes. It's built on chalkboards and closed-door hearings, and Nolan makes every conversation feel dangerous.
  7. 2The Odyssey poster
    The Odyssey (2026)9.4
Nolan swapped dream logic for Greek myth and didn't miss.
Robert Pattinson plays the worst houseguest in literature, Tom Holland plays the son stuck hosting him, and it's 8.4 on IMDb across 172 minutes that never sag.
  8. 1Memento poster
    Memento (2000)9.5
Every Nolan movie since is a remix of this one.
Polaroids and a story told backwards beat every Batmobile on this list. Audiences rank it above 100% of notable movies, on a reported $5 to $9 million budget.
Change my mind. Interstellar and The Prestige missed the cut. Where would you put them?

$2,079 says you've spun something on a kitchen table and stared at it since 2010.
