Ranked

Long conversations, perfect needle drops and a lot of fake blood. Tarantino's top 8 by movie.guru score, counting down.

Number one is the shortest movie here, and the best one.

  1. 8Jackie Brown poster
    Jackie Brown (1997)7.1
Eighth by the numbers, and that's a crime.
Pam Grier and Robert Forster make it the calmest Tarantino movie by miles. Made for $12 million, and audiences rank it above only 62% of notable movies. Their loss.
  2. 7Kill Bill: Volume 1 poster
Half a movie, all style, and a very yellow tracksuit.
111 minutes that stop mid-story, since it's literally part one. 8.2 on IMDb from 1.33 million votes. The anime chapter rules. The plot is a to-do list.
  3. 6Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood poster
Leonardo DiCaprio's trailer meltdown is the funniest scene here.
$409.4 million worldwide on a $90 to $96 million budget, and Metacritic says 84. Margot Robbie deserved more lines than she got.
  4. 5Inglourious Basterds poster
The opening farmhouse scene is the best thing Tarantino ever shot.
Christoph Waltz makes politeness terrifying, and it sets the tone for 153 minutes. Audiences rank it above 85% of notable movies. The chapters in between are uneven.
  5. 4Kill Bill: Volume 2 poster
The better half, because it finally slows down.
Same $30 million budget as part one, way more heart. Critics rank it above 83% of notable movies, audiences 84%. David Carradine makes talking scarier than swords.
  6. 3Django Unchained poster
Jamie Foxx says the least and still owns it.
It's about slavery, and it doesn't look away. 165 minutes, $426.1 million worldwide, and Christoph Waltz gets all the best dialogue.
  7. 2Pulp Fiction poster
    Pulp Fiction (1994)8.8
The coolest one here, and somehow it's still second.
Made for $8 to $8.5 million, and Metacritic gave it a 95. Audiences only rank it above 75%, the whole reason it's second. 154 minutes, told out of order on purpose.
  8. 1Reservoir Dogs poster
    Reservoir Dogs (1992)9.1
His debut, his shortest, and the data says his best.
A $1.2 to $3 million budget, 99 minutes, and half of Hollywood spent years copying it. Audiences rank it above 99% of notable movies.
Change my mind. Where does Death Proof go? Rank the rest while you're at it.

$718 says you start an argument about whether Kill Bill counts as one movie or two.
