Ranked by movie.guru score, not vibes. Johnny Depp is in four of these. Burton's taste in leading men is not subtle.

#1 beat both Batmans with a guy who can't hug anybody.

  1. 8Sleepy Hollow poster
    Sleepy Hollow (1999)6.1
Burton's best-looking movie, and the mystery barely matters.
71% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.1 movie.guru score. The fog and the windmill carry it. The whodunit is mostly Depp fainting in nice coats.
  2. 7Charlie and the Chocolate Factory poster
Critics liked it more than you did. You were right.
83% on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences beat only 48% of movies. $474.9M worldwide on a reported $150M, and Wonka still plays like a haunted mannequin.
  3. 6Batman Returns poster
    Batman Returns (1992)7.0
The weirdest superhero sequel ever made. Ranked too low.
A 7.0 movie.guru score is stingy. movie guru gives it a 7.8. Pfeiffer's Catwoman steals every scene, and it still made $266.9M worldwide being this strange.
  4. 5Big Fish poster
    Big Fish (2003)7.2
Audiences overruled the critics here, and audiences are correct.
Metacritic 58, but IMDb 7.9 from 480,881 voters. Albert Finney telling tall tales is the most sincere Burton has ever been. Nobody leaves with dry eyes.
  5. 4Beetlejuice poster
    Beetlejuice (1988)7.9
Most fun per dollar Burton ever made.
Reported $15M budget, $74.7M domestic, 7.9 movie.guru score. Catherine O'Hara owns every room she walks into. The dinner party scene alone justifies the rental.
  6. 3Batman poster
    Batman (1989)8.0
Overrated. It's Nicholson's movie, Batman just visits.
8.0 movie.guru score and an A CinemaScore, but movie guru gives it a 6.8. $411.6M worldwide riding on Jack's grin. Keaton's good. The plot is a toy aisle.
  7. 2Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street poster
Burton's best-made movie. The critics agree for once.
Metacritic 83, highest on this list. Depp sings, Rickman glowers, London looks like it needs a bath. Only $52.9M domestic, so most of you skipped it.
  8. 1Edward Scissorhands poster
A quiet suburb fairy tale beats Batman. Deal with it.
92% on Rotten Tomatoes, the best here. Made on a reported $20M budget, it ties Sweeney at 8.4 and wins on audiences. Depp barely talks and says everything.
Change my mind. Rank these 8 from most to least Johnny Depp energy.

$583.41 says your first comment is about Batman sitting at #3, not Scissorhands at #1.
