Good scores, short runtimes, home before the candy crash. It's Saturday, but treat it like a school night. Your eyelids will thank you.

Number one scared off audiences and charmed critics. I'm siding with the critics.

  1. 8Buddy poster
    Buddy (2026)6.6
A $3M movie that outhustled actual blockbusters.
Reported $3M budget, nearly $27M domestic, 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. Patton Oswalt and Cristin Milioti in fantasy horror. Weird, cheap, and sometimes too pleased with its own weirdness.
  2. 7Liar Liar poster
    Liar Liar (1997)6.9
Jim Carrey's face is the only special effect needed.
$302.7M worldwide and an A− CinemaScore. The plot is one sentence stretched thin. Carrey's rubber face does every bit of the heavy lifting, and it's legit enough.
  3. 6Chronovisor poster
    Chronovisor (2026)8.8
The best movie on this list that nobody saw.
Metacritic 90, Rotten Tomatoes 92%, and just 207 IMDb votes. It made $126,456 total. That's a polite way of saying you missed it.
  4. 5Midnight in Paris poster
A pretty postcard that gets more credit than it earns.
The movie.guru score is 8.7, the Guru's Take is 7.3. It turned a reported $17M into $151.5M worldwide. Lovely to look at, thin as a croissant.
  5. 4My Old Ass poster
    My Old Ass (2024)7.9
The most underrated coming-of-age fantasy in years.
90% on Rotten Tomatoes and only $5.4M domestic. Maisy Stella meets her older self and it lands harder than that tiny box office suggests.
  6. 3Beetlejuice poster
    Beetlejuice (1988)7.9
Still the correct Halloween night pick. No debate.
$74.7M domestic off a reported $15M budget. Catherine O'Hara and Tim Burton's handmade nonsense. Some effects look cheap on purpose. Some just look cheap.
  7. 2Monty Python and the Holy Grail poster
Funnier than every fantasy epic ever made, combined.
movie.guru score 9.5, beats 99% of movies with audiences, 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. Coconuts instead of horses. The back half runs low on gas, and it barely matters.
  8. 1The Witch poster
    The Witch (2015)6.0
The best movie here. Audiences got this one wrong.
Critics: 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences: a C− CinemaScore, beating just 34% of movies. Guru's Take is 8.0 against a 6.0 movie.guru score. Slow on purpose. Fight me.
Change my mind. Wrong answers only: which one actually belongs at number one?

$47.63 says someone in the comments calls number one boring and someone else calls it the scariest thing they've ever seen.
