Everybody knows Iron Man. Fewer saw the guy carry a $15M noir comedy, a Fincher procedural and a war satire. Here's the case.

The last one made $4,243,756 domestic and beats Iron Man. Fight me.

  1. 8Iron Man 2 poster
    Iron Man 2 (2010)6.5
Messy movie, fully loaded RDJ. Blame the script, not him.
A Metacritic 57 and a 6.5 movie.guru score say the plot is a pileup. The A CinemaScore says crowds came for Tony anyway, and he carried every scene.
  2. 7Avengers: Age of Ultron poster
Critics were stingy. The crowd's number is closer to right.
Audiences beat 83% of movies, critics only 60%. It's overstuffed, sure, but a 7.6 movie.guru score and $1.4 billion worldwide don't happen by accident.
  3. 6Oppenheimer poster
    Oppenheimer (2023)9.3
Everyone saw it. Almost nobody talks about his part.
Fourth billed behind Murphy, Blunt and Damon, and he still walks off with scenes. A 9.3 movie.guru score, yet the conversation never gets around to him.
  4. 5Captain America: Civil War poster
The best Tony Stark movie without Iron Man in the title.
An 8.7 movie.guru score and an A CinemaScore. Tony takes the unpopular side, and RDJ plays it with enough conviction that you half agree with him.
  5. 4Iron Man 3 poster
    Iron Man 3 (2013)7.3
The best Iron Man sequel, and it's not close.
Shane Black yanks Tony out of the suit and into a small-town mess. Critics beat just 61% of movies, yet it scored 7.3 to Iron Man 2's 6.5.
  6. 3Tropic Thunder poster
    Tropic Thunder (2008)6.5
His funniest performance, in a movie critics liked more than you.
Critics beat 73% of movies, audiences only 54%. The 6.5 movie.guru score undersells it, and the Guru's Take of 7.3 says the satire still lands.
  7. 2Zodiac poster
    Zodiac (2007)7.3
Fincher's best movie, and theaters were basically empty.
$33.1M domestic on a reported $65 to 85M budget. 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, a Guru's Take of 8.9, and RDJ as the funniest reporter in the newsroom.
  8. 1Kiss Kiss Bang Bang poster
His best movie. Better than Iron Man. Fight me.
$4,243,756 domestic on a reported $15M budget, then audiences beat 88% of movies with it. 8.4 movie.guru score. Shane Black, Val Kilmer and RDJ at full motor-mouth.
Change my mind. Rank these from most to least underrated. Wrong answers only for #1.

$427.19 says you watch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang this weekend to prove me wrong and come back agreeing in the comments.
