Ranked purely by the movie.guru score, critics and audiences blended. No vibes, no mercy. Three of these made less worldwide than The Iron Giant's $23.3M flop.

Number one is 38 years old, has no villain, and still wins.

  1. 8Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle poster
Fans dragged this one past the critics, and won.
Metacritic gave it a 67. Audiences beat 99% of movies anyway, and it pulled $793.6M worldwide on a reported $20M budget. The wallets settled this argument.
  2. 7The Iron Giant poster
    The Iron Giant (1999)9.3
The best movie almost nobody saw in theaters.
$23.3M worldwide against a reported budget near $50M. Decades later it sits at 9.3 here with a CinemaScore A. Brad Bird got the last laugh, just very slowly.
  3. 6The Wild Robot poster
    The Wild Robot (2024)9.4
The rare studio hit that earned every tear it took.
$334.5M worldwide, 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, CinemaScore A. Pedro Pascal voices a fox, which in 2024 felt like a legal requirement for any movie.
  4. 5Wildwood poster
    Wildwood (2026)9.5
Tiny sample size, but the sample is right.
99% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.7 on IMDb, from only 5,079 votes. It has $11.6M on the books against a reported $100M budget. It deserves a way bigger crowd.
  5. 4Flow poster
    Flow (2024)9.5
A cat with zero lines outacts most of Hollywood.
A 9.5 here and an 87 on Metacritic, with a cast list that is literally just the director, Gints Zilbalodis. It made $30.9M worldwide.
  6. 3Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye poster
The audience score is doing all the heavy lifting.
A 9.5 built on audiences beating 97% of movies, with zero critic scores on file and just 2,423 IMDb votes. The Guru's Take is a much cooler 7.4.
  7. 2Look Back poster
    Look Back (2024)9.6
The best reviews on this list belong to the smallest movie.
100% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90 on Metacritic, both tops here. It made $6,043,816 worldwide. Critics found it. You probably did not.
  8. 1My Neighbor Totoro poster
No villain, no explosions, no contest. Totoro wins.
A 1988 movie with $3.1M domestic ties for the top score at 9.6. Audiences beat 99% of movies, and 441,976 IMDb voters showed up for a giant fluffy nap.
Change my mind. Rank these from most to least likely to make you cry on a Tuesday.

$613.57 says the first comment is someone asking where Spirited Away went.
