Sunday is for couches, snacks and movies that refuse to end on time. These eight run long, and the numbers say every minute pays rent.

Number one got a B minus CinemaScore. Audiences were wrong. Fight me.

  1. 8The Batman poster
    The Batman (2022)8.2
The Batman is a detective movie wearing a superhero costume.
Pattinson spends more time reading clues than throwing punches, and it still made $772.8 million worldwide. The third act drags, but the Riddler puzzle stuff is legit great.
  2. 7Prisoners poster
    Prisoners (2013)7.6
Prisoners deserves better than its 7.6 movie.guru score.
Critics gave it a 70 on Metacritic, but 965,231 IMDb voters pushed it to 8.2. Jackman and Gyllenhaal turn a kidnapping case into slow, heavy dread.
  3. 6Gone Girl poster
    Gone Girl (2014)8.0
Gone Girl ruins date night, and that's the whole point.
Audiences handed it a B CinemaScore, probably because they watched it next to a spouse. Rosamund Pike is ice cold, and it grossed $370.9 million worldwide anyway.
  4. 5Blade Runner 2049 poster
Blade Runner 2049 underperformed at the box office. Theaters were wrong.
$92.1 million domestic against a reported $150 million budget. Gosling mostly stares into fog, and somehow that's the point. Guru's Take: 9.1, second highest on this list.
  5. 4Anatomy of a Fall poster
Anatomy of a Fall is a courtroom drama scarier than horror.
Made on a reported $6.7 million, it pulled $36 million worldwide and a 96 on Rotten Tomatoes. Sandra Hüller makes you flip your verdict every twenty minutes.
  6. 3Mulholland Drive poster
Mulholland Drive makes zero sense, and that's why it works.
Lynch made $7.2 million domestic and a generation of people drawing diagrams on napkins. Guru's Take: 9.2, the highest here. You won't fully get it. That's fine.
  7. 2Apocalypse Now Redux poster
Redux is bloated, and it's still the highest-scored movie here.
A 9.4 movie.guru score, with critics and audiences in total agreement. Guru's Take sits at 8.7 because the extra footage slows the boat. Brando, Duvall and Sheen still hit like thunder.
  8. 1Zodiac poster
    Zodiac (2007)7.3
Zodiac is Fincher's best movie. Yes, over Gone Girl.
Audiences gave it a B minus CinemaScore and a 7.3 movie.guru score. My Guru's Take is 8.9. It's a movie about paperwork and obsession, and it's riveting.
Change my mind. Rank these from shortest-feeling to longest-feeling. Wrong answers only.

$463.81 says you pause Zodiac to look up the real case before the halfway mark.
