8 Underrated Biopics You Need to Watch This Week. Fight Me on Number One.

Great scores, tiny crowds. These biopics and docs beat most movies with critics and audiences, and almost nobody bothered to rate them. Fix that this week.

The last one is a documentary half of you will skip on principle.

  1. 8The Fire Inside poster
    The Fire Inside (2024)8.1
The boxing movie that deserved a much bigger crowd.
Guru's Take 8.0, Metacritic 79, and just $8.1M domestic on a reported $12M budget. The sports beats are familiar. Ryan Destiny and Brian Tyree Henry make them hit anyway.
  2. 7Becoming Led Zeppelin poster
Play it loud and leave your cynicism at the door.
movie.guru 9.2, 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, $14.7M worldwide. Under 10,000 IMDb ratings for Led Zeppelin. Guru's Take is 8.6, not higher, because it's a love letter, not an interrogation.
  3. 6Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World poster
A poetry documentary that never feels like homework.
234 IMDb votes, fewer than a decent poetry reading. Metacritic 82, movie.guru 8.9. It moves slow, like a long walk. That's the point, but bring patience.
  4. 5EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert poster
Baz Luhrmann finally gets out of Elvis's way.
movie.guru 9.6, audiences beat 99% of movies, $23.5M worldwide on a reported $10 to 11M budget. Only 7,084 IMDb votes. Somehow Elvis is underrated now.
  5. 4The Cycle of Love poster
A true love story that out-romances most rom-coms.
100% on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences beat 98% of movies, and only 428 IMDb votes. The database files it under Action. Honestly? Pedaling that far for love counts.
  6. 3Once Upon a Time in Harlem poster
The tiniest crowd on this list, and it's not close.
162 IMDb votes. Metacritic 96, a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and $157,894 domestic. It's loose by design, which some will mistake for unfinished. They're wrong.
  7. 2You Can See Everything poster
A 9.8 can still be underrated. This is proof.
IMDb 9.3, Metacritic 97, $45.1M domestic on a reported $7M budget, yet just 17,418 IMDb votes. Guru's Take 9.0, because the hype sometimes gets louder than the movie.
  8. 1Musk poster
    Musk (2026)8.5
The documentary you'll skip on principle is the one worth seeing.
Alex Gibney, 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, movie.guru 8.6, and only 983 IMDb votes. Guru's Take is 7.2 because it preaches a little. You'll still argue about it all week.
Change my mind. Rank these from most to least underrated. Wrong answers only for #1.

$83.71 says you comment about #1 before you watch a single one of the other seven.
