Simon Pegg has two giant franchises and an ice cream trilogy on his résumé. The scores are huge. The crowds, weirdly, were not.

Number one is a cult classic you swear isn't underrated. The box office disagrees.

  1. 8Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning poster
Overstuffed and overpriced, but the crowd was right about it.
Audiences rated it above 83% of movies, critics only 63%. Reported budget of $300M to $400M, fewest IMDb votes here at 243,539. Bloated, sure. Still a 7.6.
  2. 7Star Trek Beyond poster
Fans skipped the most fun Trek of the reboot run.
CinemaScore A minus, 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, then $343M worldwide on a $185M reported budget. Box office isn't profit, and that math is grim for a movie this lively.
  3. 6Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol poster
Brad Bird made the most rewatchable Mission, full stop.
94% on Rotten Tomatoes, $694M worldwide, and a Guru's Take of 8.4 over its 7.9 movie.guru score. Critics beat 83% of movies. The crowd lagged at 73%.
  4. 5Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation poster
The quiet middle child that out-plots its louder siblings.
Guru's Take 8.6, above its 8.2 movie.guru score. $710M worldwide on a $150M reported budget, and people still can't remember which one it is.
  5. 4Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One poster
Part One gets treated like homework. It's a 9.1.
96% on Rotten Tomatoes, CinemaScore A, audiences above 93% of movies. Only 334,678 IMDb votes though, fewer than Rogue Nation's 451,375. Strange choice, internet.
  6. 3Mission: Impossible – Fallout poster
Best action movie of its decade, and fewer people rate it.
98% on Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic 87, $824M worldwide. It still has 144,331 fewer IMDb votes than Ghost Protocol. The helicopter deserved more paperwork.
  7. 2The World's End poster
    The World's End (2013)7.0
The ice cream trilogy entry everyone skips is the smartest one.
Metacritic 81, critics above 82% of movies. Audiences gave it 57%, a B+ CinemaScore and $46M worldwide. The Guru's Take of 7.6 says they blinked first.
  8. 1Hot Fuzz poster
    Hot Fuzz (2007)9.0
Your favorite cult comedy is still underrated. Yes, Hot Fuzz.
A 9.0 movie.guru score, audiences above 94% of movies, Guru's Take 9.1. It made $23,637,265 domestic. Everyone quotes it. Almost nobody paid to see it.
Change my mind. Rank these from most to least underrated. Wrong answers get screenshotted.

$583.62 says you type 'Hot Fuzz is NOT underrated' in the comments, then rewatch it tonight anyway.
