The 8 Lowest-Scoring Big Movies of the 2000s

Ranked

Huge 2000s hits, hundreds of thousands of IMDb votes each, and movie.guru scores that never cracked 5. Receipts attached. Feelings not included.

Number one wasted the best casting of the decade. Twice.

  1. 8Saw poster
    Saw (2004)5.1
Clever trap, cheap scares, and a puppet on a tricycle.
$104 million worldwide on a $1 to $1.2 million budget. Wild. Metacritic gives it a 46, and the sickly green filter makes everything look like it needs a bath.
  2. 7Mr. & Mrs. Smith poster
Breaking every dish in the house is not a plot.
$487.3 million worldwide on a $110 million budget, and the movie.guru score is a 4.9. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie trade one-liners while the house does all the acting.
  3. 6The Butterfly Effect poster
Ashton Kutcher versus a timeline, and the timeline wins.
Critics rank it above just 13% of notable movies, audiences above 71%. Metacritic says 30. Every time Evan fixes the past, things get bleaker, and the movie never cracks a smile.
  4. 5Hancock poster
    Hancock (2008)4.1
Two movies glued together, and the second one lost.
$629.4 million worldwide on a $150 million budget. The first half is a sharp, scruffy superhero comedy. Then it takes a hard turn, and 92 minutes somehow feel long.
  5. 4The Matrix Revolutions poster
Too many robot squids, not enough Neo.
Rotten Tomatoes says 33%, Metacritic 47. The Wachowskis spent a reported $110 to $150 million, and the best part is a dock battle Neo isn't even in.
  6. 3Twilight poster
    Twilight (2008)4.3
The most intense staring contest ever filmed.
$405 million worldwide on a $37 million budget. Critics rank it above 34% of notable movies, audiences 33%. The vampire baseball scene is the only part anyone rewatches.
  7. 2The Day After Tomorrow poster
Jake Gyllenhaal outruns the weather. Science files a complaint.
$552.6 million worldwide on a $125 million budget. Roland Emmerich freezes New York, and the movie.guru score freezes at 4.0. The escaped wolves are somehow the realistic part.
  8. 1X-Men Origins: Wolverine poster
Hugh Jackman deserved better. So did Deadpool.
Critics rank it above just 20% of notable movies, and the Guru's Take is a 3.4, lowest on this list. The CGI claws look like they came free in a cereal box.
Change my mind. Which one did I go too easy on?

$353 says you have a Team Edward shirt in a drawer and a defense of it ready to go.
