Money talks. Scores talk back. Here are 2026's eight biggest worldwide grosses, counted up, with the movie.guru score sitting next to each one like a chaperone.

The year's biggest earner lands at #1, and it's not the year's best movie.

  1. 8Pegasus 3 poster
    Pegasus 3 (2026)5.3
A $656 million hit almost nobody in America saw.
It made $656 million worldwide and just $1.4 million domestic. The 5.3 score says average sports comedy, which is fine. Shen Teng carries it like a guy pushing a stalled car.
  2. 7Project Hail Mary poster
The year's sweetest sci-fi deserved way more than seventh place.
A 9.2 movie.guru score and a CinemaScore of A. Still only $684.5 million worldwide against a reported $248M budget. Gosling in space deserved a bigger crowd.
  3. 6The Devil Wears Prada 2 poster
The smartest business move of the year, not the smartest movie.
$693.5 million worldwide on a reported $100M budget is a Meryl Streep power move. A 6.3 score means the sequel coasts on cerulean memories. Solid, never sharp.
  4. 5The Super Mario Galaxy Movie poster
A billion dollars for a movie critics actively dodged.
$1.01 billion worldwide, a 37 on Metacritic, 42% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences gave it an A− CinemaScore. Jack Black is still the best thing in it, and that's the problem.
  5. 4Michael poster
    Michael (2026)6.2
The biggest critic-versus-crowd split in the top eight.
Its critic score beats just 20% of movies, its audience score 83%. RT sits at 38%. Still $1.03 billion worldwide. Jaafar Jackson is why crowds kept showing up.
  6. 3Toy Story 5 poster
    Toy Story 5 (2026)8.7
Fifth movie, still better than most first movies.
An 8.7 movie.guru score and 92% on Rotten Tomatoes for a fifth helping. $1.15 billion worldwide. The Guru's Take is 7.4 because you can see the formula now.
  7. 2The Odyssey poster
    The Odyssey (2026)9.5
The best movie of 2026, and it only finished second.
A 9.5 movie.guru score, 88 on Metacritic, $1.80 billion worldwide. The Guru's Take is 8.6 because Nolan never met a scene he couldn't stretch.
  8. 1Spider-Man: Brand New Day poster
Biggest movie of the year. Not the best. Not close.
$2.52 billion worldwide, $958.7 million domestic. Fun? Sure. But a 66 on Metacritic and an 8.7 score trail The Odyssey's 9.5. Tom Holland beat himself at the box office.
Change my mind. Rank these eight from most to least deserving of their money.

$1,247 says somebody types "Mario was robbed" in the comments within the hour.
